Wide Belts
Originally designed to protect the lower back and sides of SCA fighters, these belts are available in two weights or styles. The first being a costume weight belt, that is made from 8-10 ounce leather that can be decorated in various ways. And the Original Heavy Weight Body Armor Fighters Belt.

This particular belt is a costume weight belt that is 5 inches wide with two 1 1/2 inch straps to secure it around your middle. This belt offers excellent support for the belly and back, yet still provides the high style of the Medieval Man at Arms! I can create these belts to fit a waist size up to 42 inches, and up to 5 inches wide with a "Simply" decorated back panel for $75.00. Larger sizes are available for $3.00 for each additional inch.
Heavy Weight Fighters Belt
The Heavy Belts are cut from sturdy 12-15 ounce leather and have an additional thick reinforcing panel at the back and sides! Heavily studded and decorated, these belts can easily weigh up to 5 or 6 pounds and are almost a 1/2 inch thick in the back. This is serious protection for todays warrior.
However, in order for these belts to be considered legal armor for SCA, they must be equipped with a minimum of 1/4 inch of closed cell foam padding to absorb the shock to the body that a blow from a weapon can impart upon your precious hide!.
We can add the required padding for an additional $25.00 on any belt. However, Faire Leather uses 3/8 inch padding to ensure that your innards will be safely protected.
Standard Heavy Weight Belts similar to the one pictured above up to 5 inches in width with simple decoration are $100.00. Heavy belts over 42 inch waist are $3.50 per inch additional.
Fancy versions up to 5 inches wide start at $125.00. Here are a few examples of Fancy Heavy Weight Belts.

Both of the belts pictured above are 5 1/2 inches wide, and are heavily decorated.

The belt pictured above was a simply decorated 9 inch wide kidney belt with 3 - 1 1/2 inch straps. It was ordered by a rather large individual, but without closed cell foam padding.

This is an example of a Fancy Heavy Fighters Belt. It was made for Mark Burgos who fights as Magnus the Bad Axe in Mississippi with the SCA. Mark's belt is very heavy, and measures 7 inches at the back and tapers to 5 1/2 inches in front. It is heavily padded, and the back panel is decorated with a "Thors Hammer" design that I created for him. The runes spell out "Bad Axe". Altho they are not visible in this picture, Mark needed to have some means of attaching his legs to the belt, so we made a provision for that as well by adding two "D" ring attachments. Both Mark and the Lady Dorothy, were very involved in the design of this belt, and I believe that it more than meets his requirements. Thanks guys

The picture at left shows how thick that back of these belts are. This is serious protection for your back and sides. Even without the padding requirement for SCA, these belts provide serious protection for the kidneys and the lumbar regions of your back! The center image illustrates how thick the padding is. The image on the right is an example of about how far you can go and still be considered a "Basic" back panel.
